Using real-time web in your journalism
This interactive session will focus on the best tools for journalists who want to harness the power of the real-time web for newsgathering and ‘broadcasting’. The session will explore the best newsgathering tools: twitter, micro-blogging applications, real-time search engines, RSS readers, forums and message boards. It will also explore tools for broadcasting and building community, such as live-blogging tools like scribblelive and facebook.

Making the most of audio and video web tools
This session introduces a range of web and mobile phone tools and applications which can help you with your newsgathering as well as broadcasting your content. We will highlight video tools which can be used on the web and smartphones such as Qik, 12secs, Vimeo, Seismic and audio tools such as audioboo. We will also discuss the role of technology such as Flip cameras and the iphone.

Developing multiplatform formats
This session explores ways to bring your online journalism to life, focusing on formats such as audio-slideshows, data mash-ups, interactive maps. While this session can only provide a taster of what is possible, it will hopefully illustrate the opportunities which exist and point you in the direction of further information and training.
